You did not indicate that he was an adulterer too.
But, I can see that he cannot be seen as weak, therefore there is a double standard.
She is living a luxurious life and it is something she needs to accept or should never have been with him. Obviously she is aware of him.
So it was just plain stupidity and she is lucky she only got an ass strapping.
