been absent a while but i'm starting to read this long saga again.

this was a nice start to what i'm sure is going to be a thrilling and captivating tale.

I disagree with the previous commenter; this is a period piece. The intent is clearly to write in the style of a Greek epic. While inviting comparison with Homer is a loosing game, I think this story successfully captures the feel of the way battles are described in, for example, the Illiad.

You need to show more, tell less.
