I was not sure I was going to like the story and it is not really a story that would appeal to me but your handling of the interactions between the characters is pitch-perfect and drew me in. So much thought was implied behind the actions occurring, so much scenery made clear but implicit - very clever! I feel I have several plausible neighbors like this.
