Sweet!

Loved the cooking references and if I lived any closer, I'd be popping round for triple berry pie with lavender whipped cream about now! Great story and perfect for the day :)

As always enjoyable and interesting. I admit that I would not be so quick to re-entangle with her, but love is love....

Very Enjoyable!

Thank you for the sweet Valentine's story. It was a pleasure to read from beginning to end, as are all your stories. I especially appreciated the leavening of humor that you injected. One small nit to pick, however, since you clearly went to some trouble to get the culinary allusions correct: Champaign is a city in Illinois; the name of the famous bubbly (and the region of France from which it comes) is Champagne.

Made me hungry

Outstanding! The research, the settings, the description. It was like you were there.

Also the side story about the chef and his girlfriend was good too.

First time a story has made me order out food.

Well Done! (Both stories!)

What a fun-and funny-story!

I did as you suggested and put my thumb to my first two fingers with the palm up and read out loud in my best Italian accent. All I can say is don’t use me for your audio version. Put aside the fun and funny and you have a charming love story. Sometimes it just takes a little wake up call to see it – or in this case, a divine meal!

Thanks for sharing.

BTW – for the one’s who commented on Streisand’s first name. Barbra’s original name was Barbara. She changed it to be different—or maybe she couldn’t stand the Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-Ba-BaberAnn song.

In the Itlian alphabet there is no "K". So if Mark returned to the family name for authenticity purposes he surely would have returned to the use of the letter "c" instead of "k" in his first name. That aside, a nice read, flowed well.

It did get to be a kind of predictable trip but it was still a very nice ride to the end -

One Correction

In seating arrangements, the wife, fiancee, or girlfriend sits to the man's LEFT, closest to his heart. His mother, daughter, or (in this case) the business partner sits to Mark's RIGHT. Just a minor mistake. Although the writing was brilliant, I gave it 4 stars. I do not like stories where a cheating wife tells her husband, "But I love you." And I don't like a story where the man says, "I will always love you.", but doesn't give her a chance to explain but, instead, vanishes. To me, he is the worst kind of coward. Result? Loss of 1 star!

No, not a romantic, a foodie! OK, you are obviously the other also.

Thanks for the fun and romance.

These people probably won't last

She made a mistake. He called her on it rightly and then left the very next day without even giving her a chance to change her behavior? Yeah he is no better than she is.

Hate her friend who seems completely fucking selfish and uncaring about problems that are important to her friend. Major issue happening, ignore it b cause we are getting free food? Shitty fucking bitch.

And NH, you are full of cow-digested oats, a man so disrespected owes NO ONE a chance to explain, not even his blood kin. Disrespect someone for their fundamental core being, forfeit all right to be part of their life. DUH OldBearSwitch

Champaign???

Can someone please tell me ... is it one of those Lit inside jokes that every writer on this site misspells CHAMPAGNE?? I get “Yeet!” and Pauline French and making fun of Matt Moreau, but why can’t anyone spell Champagne correctly??

End of rant.

WARNING! Dear readers — in the remainder of the story, some of the dialog is in 'dialect'.

Never do this, no one likes it, mention the accent as part of the character description

5***** A tasty story that left me starving for the food described in this story. Marko and Sarah had the youthful mistakes of poor communication and patience. Fortunately, they were reunited by Italians and their cuisine. Magnifico!!!

Fantastic character portrayal and development! The absence of blatantly descriptive sex was refreshing! Eroticism can stand alone with blatant sexual display.

You sir are a GREAT WRITER!

THANK YOU!

Fantastic!!

With one flaw,.. when she was searching for him, nobody at the Bistro knew where he went. Yet, at the party, many (customers - staff) followed him loyally to HIS restaurant.

That's a plot flaw.

Lovely story. Though I agree with Mark's self examination that he had made a mistake. Yes their relationship had been rocky the last 2 months the due to undue outside influence from Philip on Sarah, but they have a fight and instead of even remotely following up afterwards, after having cut off the argument that night and going to sleep, he up and stealthily moves out their apartment where they had cohabited for 18 months. Worse he knows Sarah saw him with Luci and would probably have the wrong idea if why they broke up. He could have easily reached out to her but did a clean break. So yeah Sarah was being a nag and somewhat condescending, not realizing how different the training and schooling for the culinary arts form her world. Indeed, "Gordon Blues" (hehe) shows she doesn't know anything about cooking, And yes she said something pretty nasty while somewhat drunk that night of the fight. But instead of having a sober discussion (or argument) the next day, he just walks out after 18 months. It is his prerogative, they are only dating, but that was the cowardly way out just cleaing his stuff out and leaving. Also what relationship do they have where he keeps secret his opening a new restaurant for the same couple of months that Sarah has been nagging him. And again he doesn't set the record straight regarding Luci thatbdyabornthe next when Sarah overhears their meeting. I am glad they worked it out and Sarah was being gaslighted by Philip about her relationship with Mark and his career, never a good thing, but we as the reader know that after she realized what she did in that fight, the next day at work she set the record straight with Philip. But when she gets home, Mark has already fled. So yeah both made mistakes. All's well that ends well though. The Simonetta / Botticelli story elements were quite creative. Salud!

Still a great story on the third read! And no, I didn’t find your version of Italian accented English offensive. I’m half Italian myself and I remember my grandmother talking something like that. Well done!

A beautiful, gentle story. Thank you.

It was like being carried along by a gentle river current.

On the other hand, you almost killed me by serving pizza as a special at an upscale restaurant.

I'm not in any way denigrating pizza, which I love, and some of it is simply fabulous, but not in a Michelin-starred restaurant.

Very nice fairy tale

Fairy tales have their own realities so I will not raise any real life scenario issue about the story

AnonymousAnonymous4 months ago

The snake in the grass that gets in the wife/gf's ears and she is, as they always are, blind to the obvious bullshit they feed them. Honestly if I were a woman I'd be somewhat offended at how easy women are made to seem to gullible and converted into sluts (most stories that have the serpent end up like that) with some bullshit lines and obvious seduction approaches. Pretty sad really. I wonder how long until Sarah falls victim to the next one. If a woman can fall for it once, they can certainly fall for it again, if the circumstances are right.

Evidently those degrees don't count for shit when it comes to seeing the obvious ploys of womanizing assholes. Too bad. There should be mandatory classes on Spotting Bullshitters. And if she can't put 2 and 2 together to equate Mark Flore to the obviously similar Italian version of it, I begin to wonder if she's intelligent at all. There was also that moment where she saw Mark and Luci and instead of talking to him asking what's going on - like a normal person would - she makes an assumption, overreacts and does a runner.
