LOTS of fire prevention data out there, from smoke detectors, heat detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, to fire resistant (intumescent) paint to fire resistent insulation (Roxul brand as one) to fire resistant doors to proper building techniques. Fire scares the hell out of me and I've done home renovations to try to ensure that safety and security are high priorities. Prevention is a better insurance than trying to recover AFTER a disaster like you mentioned above.
Thanks for your story, sorry about your puppy. I gave it five stars, but being anonymous it doesn't show. Everyone should know and practice safety and security for their home as well as when they stay somewhere else.
