Wonderful story.. I was in the US Army from 1973 to 1985 and you described life in it very accurately but it is a good thing that you ended the story where you did because as you said Fraternization is definitely frowned upon and this couple could never have openly dated or married. I was JAG Corps and we court-martialed many an enlisted person for just the same "crime".
