Not much happening outside the family in this chapter. The author takes a lot of time to strengthen the bonds among the people in the family, especially between the ladies and their younger sisters, who are now beginning to come of age themselves and take their steps into being responsible women. The younger girls do have a ways to go to reach their older sisters' degree of humility, but they have learned a lot from Carrie and Jen regarding being exemplary human beings. The surprise breakfast brings back memories of the joy I myself, as an adolescent, felt in doing similar things for my mother.
Carrie and Jen finally become doctors, but I wonder, though--a bit too much emphasis on helping Linda out rather than focus on just being doctors for its own sake? I don't know, but Carrie's and Jen's strength is shown yet again in how they go through that tumultuous first day of their internship.
