Enjoyed it. Kinda rapid fire in spots...were you trying to keep the length down? One note: I love Australia; but, like most non-Aussies, the slang can be difficult to decipher, even in context. Explanatory paretheses would not detract from the flow and be ever so helpful to those of us unfortunate enough to live elsewhere.

I felt as if I was there. Even though I have never been to Austrailia, I've seen movies and pictures that helped to understand. Excellent is a word that comes to mind.

Having spent over half my life in South Australia, I enjoy Cromagnonman's stories, and I even learned something from this one. I have been living in Tasmania for the last 10 years, and didn't know about the almond/grape switch. What a shame, the profusion of almond blossom was inspiring.
