That was a beautiful story with an unexpected ending. Very good and perfect for the season.
Thank you very much for providing us with a pleasant interlude. Reading your story gave me a very high goal to shoot for. Excellent.
I must say you are definitely my favorite author on here, perhaps anywhere. With this story you made me cry. Not sad tears, the good tears where something touches you so deeply it has a lasting effect. You deserve to win this contest hands down, best of luck.
Wonderful story Lynn. Very heart warming. I could taste the stew and smell the homemde bread. The best to you in the contest.

and it is in your talent for writing! Thank you for a wonderful story!!!
I devoured EVERY word of your story! I loved it! It's facinating when there is alot of conversation in a story and boy Mistress Lynn did you deliver! I loved the story, the plot and the references to "Him"...WELL DONE! (Beau)
You probably don't rememeber me but you gave me some advice in the Forum section. Someone esle in the forum called you 'Saintly' well this story just reinforces it for me. Nice story MistressLynn. And a nice Christmas story. I am not in the least religous and don't really hold with the idea of Christmas but I can see this type of thing happening. So thanks again for your advice and thanks for the story.
and I'm sure you never forget Poizon! Me an him got something in common-asslickinpete.
of the giving part of Christmas. This was a beautifully told story of love. The romance between the couple was beautiful, but the love they showed their visitor was truly inspiring. My hat is off to you, dear lady. Congratulations on a well-earned win.
I have often delved into the story section, but this is one of the very best that I've read. No wonder it was awarded first prize! I lost my wife 5 years ago, on Dec. 18 (tomorrow, local time here) which was my 81st birthday. I identified with Nick. I would like to write more, but my eyes are affected by tears, so I'll just close with a sincere, Thank You to the writer, and hope for more of the same calibre sometime.
As the title says, this was the best story I've read in a long time. It kept me riveted the entire time. The way it was blended so well, the story flowed from my computer screen straight to my soul. It touched me in some way that I don't know how to describe, thank you for that. I know the voting is over and I'm truly sorry I didn't get a chance to vote for your story, but I am forever greatful to have had the opprotunity to read it.
Superb writing talent. Congratulations on winning the 2009 Winter Holiday contest.
I loved the story. Thank you so much! Hope you have a Merry Christmas.

Truly not an original
have read this in various versions many times over the past 50 years....ought to vote for something original...should not have even made the list.

Now, although there are already some stories of this kind, however, this has deeply touched my heart. An exciting and yet sad at the end story.
A well-deserved first place.
No matter where it comes from, a well written SS is a thing of grace. do not stop
I loved this story, very well done to MistressLynn, fantastic work!
Little wonder this won first prize.
When a writer cares about the integrity of her characters and the intelligence of her readers, the result really should be pretty good.
Here, it's outstanding.
Well done, kiddo.
MistressLynn
Thanks for a beautiful story. Tremendous characters and a beautiful theme. Out there in the world there are lots of Nick's who have been battered by life's twists and turns. Once in a while one of the Nick's is fortunate to meet a Maggie and Steve, people who care enough to make a difference. Thanks for reminding us that helping people is a strength not a weakness
What a magnificent story! I give it full marks. It was so unusual, and a lovely expression of the Christ-mas spirit. I enjoyed reading it, immensely.
A fine story, well-told.
Once again you show we lesser mortals the real craft of writing.
I doubt I'll ever learn to do it write. . . .
