I've found early that older people have much to offer. They have patience and are willing to teach us. This was a pleasant story. I enjoyed it a lot.

"Since there are no predators in Australia . . ." Huh? How about dingoes, snakes, spiders, and crocodiles? Where the characters were located when this statement was made, there might not have been any crocodiles around, but the other predatory species could be.
