My Sister Sharon

We all met in the lobby and headed out. I was nervous, but Sharon was acting the same as always. I even started to wonder if it had been a bad dream. We went to some mall, and after some time, I was able to be alone enough with Sharon to bring it up. I wanted to make sure she wasn’t blaming me. ‘Sharon, about last night.’

She looked at me hard. ‘I can’t believe you..’

“Stop acting like this was my fault.’

‘What?’ She was pissed.

‘Come on,’ I said. ‘To be fair, you were in my bed.’ She watched me. ‘How was I supposed to know?’

‘I think that would be something you’d check.’ Her eyes were cold. It crossed my mind she didn’t know if it was me or not the first time. I wondered if she guessed.

‘Or something you’d check. Hey, someone’s climbing into bed with me, who is it?’ Her eyes flashed angrily so I countered before she could blow up. ‘All I’m saying is it’s not just me who made a bad assumption.’

Sharon just walked off. Inside, I still felt guilty, but the case I’d presented was rock solid -- mistaken identity and nothing more.

The rest of the vacation went off pretty normal. Nothing else was said about it. A little incest to be quietly tucked under the rug, pretend it never happened. But things have a way of resurfacing...
