Great start; hope this is a lengthy one.

It is nice to see that our hero is not focussed on revenge any more and maybe thinking of starting a new life. Good luck to them.

It is always a pleasure to read your stories. They set up well, and you take the time to develop the characters--not just their present circumstances, but their histories as well. It is so difficult to give just enough history to flesh out the character without going overboard and drowning the reader in extraneous crap, but you strike the perfect balance.
