Very Good

It has been a while since you last posted a story. This is as enjoyable as most of your other stories. Don't wait so long again.

Interesting story, and I hope there will be more

Looks like things aren't as rosy as they appear in this asian provence. This gift has all the hallmarks of a desperate father trying his best to get his daughter to safety before all hell breaks loose.

Very Real

sounding story and is obvious you have either been to China or done a lot of reading on the subject. You captured Chinese ways (and outward arrogance) very nicely, I know, as I have been living in China for almost four years now and am married to a young Chinese.

nice story but I could not swallow the appearance of a kingdom in mainland china. all the ceremony that is mentioned in this story would be quite consistent with a monarchy/a state ruled by a warlord, but not with a communist state/republic. Yes, a bureaucrat misusing his powers to supply girls as slaves is possible, but the ceremony will be less. A political alliance would be quite congruous-- it is still quite common in Asia. and in such an agreement the woman would have no say. but she would be given as a wife -- at the most as a concubine. china has been a republic since the 2nd world war and your story says that the hero traveled there by plane. Giving the daughter of a senior officer as a slave does not gel with any Asian customs that I am aware of. It would in fact constitute a serious insult to her father, as he is the chief of security of that province while the hero is a recently hired young man working for a private company. he is not even employed by microsoft, but by a "tours and travel company".

DAMN!!!! WOW!!!

Bunny, this is the third story I have read of yours. You have a magical gift of story telling.

But - PLEASE - If you are still alive and active, PLEASE add at least a couple more pages. I don't know how I will learn if or when you do, but I hope it happens.

Thanks for sharing your marvelous talent.

A start to what could be a good story. I wish there was a second chapter. Oh, well.

Great Story!

I want to start out by complimenting the author. This story took a lot of understanding of the modern history of China. The guy’s boss identified the relative time frame of ‘48 or early to mid ‘49 just before Mao took over China in late ‘49. He manipulated the story so that the guys boss sent him to China not to negotiate the contract. The contract was already agreed on. He was sent there as an emissary to escort Wu’s daughter to safety in the US. before the communist takeover. The contract was only a pretext and the instrument to get Mei Ling to the safety of the US. If it took place just before Mao took over the contract was probably never put into force anyway. Mei Ling was part of the agreement if she was not actually the agreement itself which she had no idea she was a part of. Wu could have prepared his daughter better without fully tipping his hand to her. Since Mei Ling was the contract he was told not to come back without it. I was hoping that there was a second part to this story to show how she took to American life and lifestyle. Did she marry him and did she return to China or maybe Taiwan to see her parents with her Amerasian children? I would love to see the author finish the story and bring it to a final conclusion.
