OK, I'll admit to a bit of surprise at just how well written this first chapter is. The characters are engaging, the conversation natural yet evocative, and the emotions conveyed are dead-on accurate. The jumble of contradictory emotions is especailly well-stated. It would be a shame if there were no more chapters.
