I found it very sweet, not sickly sweet because the morose feelings of the bereaved man balanced that out. Well written and developed.

loved the natural sounding dialogue - not many authors can avoid the compulsion to write stilted, pretentious dialogue. Most write in a way no real person would ever talk.

The whole plot was good, the outcome was relatively predictable, but that's what is expected in this genre.

The only thing that stopped it being a '100' story was the ending. Unfortunaltely it was out of tune with the rest of the story, was way too short and was absolutely unromantic - for me.

Still, overall a nice story.

J.G. Parkes, you have written one excellent story! It is pleasantly light-hearted, and the dialogue reflects a touch of romantic humor. I thought that the ending was a little abrupt at first, but on re-reading the story, the ending was a nice "fit" with the tone of the story.

But I'm actually glad I did. Something about it caught my eye, but I thought I'd look at the comments to see if I should read it. Kanga's comment caught my eye so I thought I should at least give it a read.

I'm "SOO" glad I did. This was very very good. Nice story, intresting balance, and it was a good love story without being unreal or unbalanced.

Admittedly, there was no sex, but this was a Non-Erotic story. The unusual idea of a man NOT sleeping with a call girl and yet still falling for her was intriguing enough (I'm assuming that the next chapter, if any, WILL have sex). The idea of a widower hiring an escort to avoid "cheating" on his late wife was still more fascinating, albeit in a sad way. I'm just glad that, no matter what, he ended up rejoining the world. I give this another 5.

Too sudden a stop? not really, but we would have wanted more and more because we fell in love with the characters and the plot. You did good, Mr. Parkes!

This is a lovely sweet, and at times funny, romance. It should be in the romance category. Non-erotic is defined as fiction without a sexual focus. This has a sexual focus, sexual tension is a key part of the story (e.g. will he ask me for sex, what will I do if he does?}, And we know what they will be doing after the theatre trip at the end of the story. True the story has no explicit sexual descriptions, but I don/t see that as necessary for the romance category. This story gives us believable characters, an interesting relationship and a fascinating situation. On the basis of that our imaginations can easily fill in the sex . A story doesn't actually have to describe the sex to be erotic

Very well done understated story of a peculiar relationship developing into something much more.

I first read this story almost 10 years ago. I just happened upon it once again and renewed my pleasure by reading it again.
