The Camera Never Blinks

"Sure thing," I told her, noticing that her boyfriend had come around to the front of the store and stood sullenly with his hands in his pockets.

"Uh - what's your name mister?" Melissa asked after looking at the sign outside. "Cook?"

"Yes. Greg Cook."

"You're an incredible fuck, Greg Cook," Melissa said as she gave me a kiss before walking outside and right past Joey, who chased after her like a puppy while he pleaded his case.

Maybe she would be back next Friday, I mused as I watched them depart. If she did come back, I knew I'd be ready for her. I wondered whether Joey would be back too, staring through the window at us, and it suddenly hit me that not only didn't I care if he did, maybe a little part of me hoped he would.
