"If you don't want any compensation for risking your life freeing these ungrateful Canadians from the British then you can leave, Mathew." The man shook off his friend's hand and turned back to Abigail. "Now get out of our way or we'll put you out of our way!"

Abigail glanced at her neighbour's houses and saw frightened faces peering out of windows. Since the Americans had called her bluff, she wondered if she should try to physically delay them or simply step aside and give Lawrence a clear shot at them. The men advanced on her, giving her little time to make a decision.
