Consequently, Canadians identify with their original culture rather than with their generic skin color. Being a Haitian, what do you really share with someone from Nigeria, other than skin tone? Be proud of who you are ... a naturalized American of Haitian descent going to school in Canada. The biggest social conflict in Canada is between two language groups ... English-speakers and French-speakers. Differences in skin color take a backseat to differences in language.

In Canada to be a politican you have to speak two languages, you don't see many american politicans who can do that it's so sad that just becuase you came here to get an education you hate canada so much, what happened to your former life in Boston, i thought it was this great city, have you ever been anywhere other Ottawa, like Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, or for that matter did you watch the olympics where canadians regardless of race stood up and showed our patriotic pride watching our country kick your asses?

Steve, I'm sorry you are unhappy in Ottawa. It's been years since I've been there and I won't pretend to know its social scene. But I think it is reasonable to guess that you actually carry your unhappiness around within you. As a Carleton student, you will have access to the student health services. They are probably more used to helping with anxiety about essays and so on rather than with your kind of troubles, whatever they are. But they are able to refer to folks who can help with more serious problems. Carleton almost certainly has an insurance plan that will allow foreign students to access the health system. It's worth talking about your difficulties with a friendly ear. This is honestly meant as friendly advice rather than an insult.
