Katy and Brandon meet in Chapter 1.1/1.2 of Complex Relationship. I recommend reading at least those two chapters if you wan to know how they met. If you get a chance to read the orignal series and the follow up Complex Family do so. It's not critical to but you'll get a lot more of the refereences to the other plot line if you do.
