Everyone sees what I want them to see.
Decorating myself to fool the world.
Hiding my flaws behind the dull paper.
No one can see the cracks in the plaster.

If only someone cared enough to tear me open.
To rip away the somber colored facade.
I have what I’ve thought I always wanted.
To never be noticed, to go unseen.

But what if all I’ve ever wanted was to be acknowledged.
Just once. I lie to myself, and settle for less.
I don’t want to be the coffee table, etched glass and fine marble.
The center of the room, I could never be that.

Everyone displays their happy photos on me.
Covering and hiding my true feelings behind the frames of others.
They puncture me with their cold metal nails.
And leave holes that will last a lifetime.

If only he could see the real me.
To realize just how pretty I could be.
To want me, with all my imperfections.
To realize just how pretty the wallpaper actually is.
