Born and grew up in Honolulu. Explored continental U.S. and Canada with side trip to Mexico. Lived a year in Japan in mid-teens; have visited China, Hong Kong and Thailand. Don't feel a call to travel, though willing to accompany other(s) who I am close to. BA with honors in journalism from University of Hawaii at Manoa; additional studies in art without another degree. Love thoughtful expository writing, not temperamentally suited to frenetic news takes on a deadline. Tend toward radicalism (going to the root of an issue, avoiding superficial window dressing).
