It was the green and gold
which caught my eye, that
later flowering summer’s morn,
when life was flat
and love was lost,
it was the green and gold
which called me home.

I came, I saw, you conquered,
and kneeling at the altar,
in the breaking of the bread
and in the sharing of the wine,
it was not just your hand
which I felt touch mine.

Love unsought, unmerited
and certainly undeserved,
filled my soul that early morn
when the green and the gold
called me home, unheeding
unknowing and yet redeemed.
