Click hereThese two poems are experiments in form, based on musical counterpoint, but instead of two different musical themes played together, there are two complete poems in each work; the bold lines are the main poem, while the italicized ones are the secondary. There are two ways to read the counter poems: one is to read all the lines straight through; the second way is to read all the bold lines first and the italicized lines after. Star Bright uses the famous nursery rhyme as a starting point, (though it is not the main poem) and the two sets of verses echo each other, the verses in Virtue will have one theme if read the first way, but two contrasting ideas when read as separate poems. Please enjoy.

It is patience you desire!
Patience…if I knelt,
At your feet…is that what you think
I would desire?
It is patience you need!
Patience…if I cut my heart out,
To bleed for you…is that what you think
I would need?
It is patience you expect!
Patience…if I died,
Here and now…is that all
You can give?
Absolutely brilliant. Great flow. Congratulations on a well deserved honor.
