I’m guilty of going through this life
With blinders on
Car accidents? Hummingbirds?
I’m neither
Smile nor frown

It’s a protective mechanism
I tell myself
Turn up the radio at the light
Next to a man holding a sign
That says ‘Help!'

“Did I even care at all?”
He asked, packed bags at my door
But I didn’t say a thing
Even when not wanting him to go

See? If I care too much
I may get hurt
But when I can’t love
It’s my humanity
That suffers

It’s an even trade off, really
And, I think God would agree
It’s only fair, when I die,
Damn my soul to languish in Purgatory

In fact, we all get scared sometimes, about others, situations, ourselves...it might not be the way of superheroes of modern fairy tales, but that of human as long as they have existed.
