Apollo pining for lust lost
Daphne pining for a cause lost
All year round
Spring to summer to autumn to winter
He danced in homage around her tree
She remained pure and virginal.
Deep lust could not control him
Strong freedom set her free
He chased her to the end of the skies
She never gave up
Never hated him so much
He never gave up
Never loved her so much.
Cupid’s arrow struck like daggers
None could live in peace
Just to get back at Apollo for mocking him
How egoistic the God of Love must be
If all it took was a belittling of his bow and arrow
Then poor Daphne could not keep her freedom
