The tell me that it is our hope
Which is the last to die
That its endless and eternal
Like the endless star-filled sky

But doesn’t that depend
On what we’re hoping for?
When the subject of our wistful dreams
Is begging life for more.

For those of you who know me,
You know my life is hard
What more can I ask, than an easy life,
When I look up at that star.

I’ll let you in on a secret
I don’t only hope for me.
I see around me, those I love
And its for their life, I dream

The son who struggles through his life
His prospects total naught
A son who’s entering working life
To chase his own dream that he’s sought

The father who is dying,
Hope of cure has long since passed
But for happiness in his last days
And few tears at his final mass

But these days my hope, it drifts to you
My dearest, closest friend
When I see the hardships that you deal with
Yet are graceful ‘til the end

Its not my place to tell the world
The strife that you endure
But both of us, we know your pain
But of your strength, I’m sure.

What is worst, or best, about this
Is that I know just what you’ll do
If I told you that my day was rough
You’d drop everything… that’s just you

You’d forget about your hardships
You’d forget about your pain
You’d fill your face with that dazzling smile
And pray for me again.

Your selflessness astounds me
Your strength just blows my mind.
As hard as my life may be sometimes
My respect for you abides

All of us know someone,
Who shows us what it’s like,
To be completely and utterly blow away
When they stake strife in their stride

You are that person to me
Calling it respect just won’t come close
And when I wish upon my star
It’s now for you, I hope

I wish that star brings happiness
Bestows a well-earned love
Gives you all the things I wish for you
As my eyes are cast above

I wish you could see yourself
Through the eyes that love you most
That you see your worth, that you see your grace
Like this poor writer does.

I have seen you in your weakest state
But now I see resolve
You’ll tap that endless inner strength
You’ll live, you’ll learn, you’ll evolve

Then one day when this is over
When your smile resumes its place
I can let myself, once more, hope for me
Whilst basking in your grace

I want the world for my one true friend
I want her to be free
To live her life knowing happiness
That all the world can see.

So, bright star, that shines so bright
You have some work to do
Give her what she needs the most
Then, for me, I’ll get back to you.

It's good to see someone who can write a rhyming form without pushing in words just for the rhyme and end up sounding like Ydda speak, as others in this weeks submissions have.

Thank you for sharing, mentioned in NEW POEMS

We all can be stars, can't we? Your words prove it, there's (star)light inside.

Thanks for sharing.
