for readers outside the USA

this poem refers to a criminal case just concluded in the State of Florida where a 17 year old (Trayvon Martin) was shot and killed by an adult neighborhood watch captain (George Zimmerman) after an alleged altercation. Zimmerman, a hispanic, following what he assumed to be a neighborhood intruder/burglar, alerted police and then claimed to have been attacked by the younger Martin, a black. Zimmerman, bloodied on the sidewalk and allegedly in fear of death or bodily harm extracted a licensed pistol and shot Martin, killing him almost immediately. Case based on self defense was tried to great publicity and resulted in a not guilty verdict from a 6 woman jury. The racial implications of the event invoked emotional responses from the various factions involved. Many felt it was an unjustified killing while others disagree.

If only

we lived in a world like this....

I read someone comment elsewhere "wouldn't it have been great if George offered Trayvon a ride because it was raining?"

Your poem is well written (they always are) and moving. This whole sad business is painful to me, too.

Thank you for the read. :-)

Profound

Such a sad story. Hopefully others who carry guns in your country will learn something from this sordid mess.
