A Lit writer was typing out one dark and windy day
Upon a scene he rested as he thought about his day
When all at once a mighty herd of red-eyed fluffs he saw
Hopping through the ragged skies and up a cloudy draw

Their tails glowed St Elmo’s fire and their feet thumped like hardened steel
Their teeth were black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel
A bolt of fear went through him as they bounced off through the sky
For he saw the writers coming hard and he heard their mournful cries

Yippie I oh oh oh
Yippie I aye ye ye
Ghost writers in the sky

Their faces gaunt, their eyes were blurred, their shirts all soaked with sweat
He’s writing hard to sort those plots but he ain’t got them yet
Cause they got to write forever on that PC in the sky
With coffee going dry as they write on hear their cries

As the writers ran on by him he heard one call his name
‘If you wanna save your soul from hell a-writing with our gang
Then author change your ways today or with us you will write
Trying to catch the devil’s plots across these endless skies’

Yippie I oh oh oh
Yippie I aye ye ye
Ghost writers in the sky
Ghost writers in the sky
Ghost writers in the sky

I don't know what they call it down in your parts, but this gave me a song virus. Or an earworm. It's going to haunt me all day.

Fie on you, Russ! Fie, I say! :-D

Quite amusing, thank you!

I love it! And I told you about the gunners on AC-130's and this song, It'll come up again in my stormwatch series. But actually the best laugh on this page is Devilboby's comment "I started singing to the original rock tune. Because I am old enough to remember it," WAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ghost Riders was written in 1948 by American cowboy Stan Jones, ten years before Rock was even popularized. A copy of the original Ghost Riders: A Cowboy Legend performed by Stan Jones and his Death Valley Rangers 1948 on vinyl will cost you $800, I don't think Devilboby is thinking of the 1961 Lawrence Welk release but the 1980 Outlaws version which I believe is the 10th release, far from original)

You done good Rusty, I'm going to try to wedge a bit of this into my plane ride along with your moniker

Whilst I was reading that I started singing to the original rock tune. Because I am old enough to remember it, sadly. 4 stars ( I'm not really into poetry).
