Afraid to float, afraid to drown,
Unsure of tomorrow, tired of today,
Weighed down with regret for yesterday.
Unable to stand, much less sit,
Hiding in corners just to fit,
Grasping for straws that were never there,
Running on gas tanks filled only with air.
Waiting for daybreak, but suspicious of light,
Familiar with darkness though blind at night,
Screaming within, but voiceless without,
The only thing certain – the presence of doubt.
This perfectly describes the way many of us have felt at one time or another. Thank you for sharing this poem.
One of my favorite poems from this prolific author, who has a touching insight into human nature. The river of her wisdom is a mighty force.
