Her captor drops the garnet nubs
Upon her tongue
One
By
One
Six slippery, silky seeds
Beads bleeding red

He bids,
Beguiles,
Betrays

She is unearthed

Floated down the Styx
Coveted,
Captured,
Consumed

Rapacious ruin

Sinuous,
Sinking sojourn,
Subworld slumber
Besmirched and befouled,
Bleached bleakness
Beneath

A solemn season hence
Hades’ hush,
His keep and thrall

The weep and droop
Above
Deflowered at earth’s cleave and cleft
Flailing, falling petals; they rot
Defiled

A mother’s shrieking summons,
Unheeded
Unheard
Nethering silence

Winter’s now dead dread
Leaves brittling to barren ground
Demeter’s tears icy sky spittle,
Sobs stinging shards

Mother’s madness
Abrupt abandon,
Angered,
She bleakens and blackens
earth and sky,

Beckoning,
Begging
Her child back

I suffered this descent along with you. Every single word a sword, battering the psyche. Most poignant, most haunting, most raw and apt.

A passionate glimpse of Persephone’s descent!

Your words paint a masterpiece….the image is haunting.

The most raw, realistic, subtle and acutely discerning account of Persephone's experience I've ever read. As usual you create a poetic world with vivid language that pushes into what is usually inexpressible. The "sound sense" or aural texture of your verse is so expressive if anyone reads your poem slowly aloud they will have an experience of being physically moved as well as emotionally and cognitively something few poems achieve with the intensity of yours. Bravo.
