Stands
Still.
Returns souls-to-ice,
Shrouded,
Silent,
Stilled.
An invitation:
To know your dark—go dark.
Darkness,
It beckons,
Bargains,
Bequeaths.
Sonorous thrum of silence,
Inscrutable portal,
Brackish-blue,
A sun, halted;
It is stood still.
An invitation:
Go inside,
Face your shadow-self.
A descent through sunless layers,
Unlighted place of your deep-down;
Your blind blackness,
Retrograde soul-journey
To your second sight.
A veiled (re)birth
Encased,
Enveloped,
En caul.
Sojourn inside,
To the out,
Chinks in your inky murk,
A pock-marked shroud of
Dazzling orange diamond sliverings,
The light of your within.
Soul
Surfacing,
Spiraling core-flame
Unraveling,
Unfurling,
Dissolving opacity,
Blooming translucence.
The return of your light;
The veil is shed.
Soul’s radiance illuminating,
Light returns,
Bursting over earth’s curve
Stretching,
Winding,
Wending,
Through shagged ice on the pine.
Sun-still solstice repose
Invites your light.
*Solstice from the Latin: Sol (sun) and Sistere (Stand still)
*“En Caul” or “Veiled Birth”, is a baby born enclosed in the unruptured amniotic sac. It is a very rare type of birth, and in many cultures, this child is considered to have the gifts of second sight, healing, wisdom, and good fortune.
Beautiful. The alliteration and simplicity of that first stanza really sets the tone. Love the interplay of darkness and light, stillness and motion, inside and out. Also love your unique and striking phrasing, especially "Unlighted place of your deep-down." This is a poem that I expect I'll come back to and read again.
Your adept manner of weaving words together to form pictures and create emotion within the reader is unparalleled! I read in awe, again.
This imagery is so quiet and inviting. It takes me deep into my soul, searching for that burning beacon of light within. How utterly beautiful
Yes, sometimes we have to go through a long, dark period to return with a new inner light.
