Talkeetna bar
north of the line
Saturday night
feeling divine,
My second beer
a conversation
with a lady alone
on her vacation,

Talked about flying
travel and climbing
from Colorado
pretty good timing,
The bar was closing
but the Fairview next door
had live music
and a lot more,

Walked over there
the band was loud
drinking and dancing
quite a crowd,
With spontaneity
started to dance
my hand on her shoulder
her hand on my pants,

Seemed very natural
delightful, indeed
a fun evening
nowhere to lead,
Which didn’t really
turn out correct
don’t prejudge
what you might expect,

Another two beers
a half dozen dances
I asked her name
she said it was Francis,
A flight nurse
with a medevac firm
flying was something
she’d like to learn,

About 2 a.m.
the band was through
Francis asked
what should we do,
I asked if she had
a recommendation
she smiled and said
I’m on vacation,

She had an RV
parked at the camp
I had a guest room
with a bedside lamp,
The light silhouetted
the smile on her face
we weren’t in a hurry
not in a race,

I used a condom
had two in my pack
both times
she laid on her back,
Her body was strong
from the gym, I suppose
it looked great
without any clothes,

The night was quick
sunup at five
she said she felt
alert and alive,
I watched her put on
a coat and her hat
she asked did I think
she looked fat,

Fat she was not
as she well knew
she asked how often
did I screw,
women I meet
at a bar the first night
I asked the same question
she smiled with delight,

So Francis and I
spent part of the day
then kissed goodbye
and went our own way,
I watched her RV
roll out of sight
replaying her smile
in the bedside light,
