They did not grow old
as those of who are left grew old.
They died in the vigour of their youth
fixed, forever, in fading sepia
in their life's prime.

Not for them austerity,
not for them the messiness,
the ageing, the slow death
of youthful hopes in
a waste of spirit.

Not for them the child's smile
nor yet the anxieties of life.
Not for them the love
or its workings out and pitfalls
just the memory glorious.

They gave their todays for our tomorrows
and as I leaf through the photographs,
the memories now beginning to fade,
I wonder what they would have made of
what we have done with it?

That's a fantastic piece. Not only do I like your theme, which is uniquely appealing, but I find your word placement particularly unusual and refreshing. This is refined and masterful with a thought-provoking conclusion. Congrats on your win.
