A noisy bar
somewhere in New York
trying not
to be a jerk,
Wearing a grimace
a look of disgust
a glass of wine
she said: if you must,

You can sit here
next to me
and so I did
we will see,
Where are you from?
she asked, and I told her
what might it be
like to hold her?

I ordered a drink
she ordered another
her name was Savannah
I was to discover,
She said between
lovers and employment
free as a bird
out for enjoyment,

We drank some more
then decided to walk
down to the river
started to talk,
Traded life stories
which might have been true
the weekend ahead
with nothing to do,

I suggested we should
go for a flight
jet off to Paris
that very night,
I had my passport
she had hers too
and that, by god
is what we did do,

That following night
we were fucking in France
dancing in bistros
in each otherโ€™s pants,
Staying out late
and sleeping to noon
knowing it all
could end so soon,

After a week or so
of the folly
we both said
well, fuck, by golly,
This has been fun
itโ€™s all been a gas
we bought tickets to Rio
going first class โ€ฆ
