The poets
The lovers
The ones with their hearts, on their sleeve
When purpose is lost
And even song has left them
Where do they go
The broken
The lost and wandering
Meandering, through solitude
When art no longer speaks to them
Choked out
Even distant whispers, escape them
Where do they go
When words elude
And simple beauty, cannot turn them
The fragility of their minds
Hanging from brittle tree tops
Branches too tired to support them
Old and weeping, willows of the North
Life tends to swallow them whole
Sinking deep, into the unknown
Where do they go
When grief holds them captive
When disappointment reins
The endlessness on repeat
Heartbreak
Tragedy
It's melancholy's fairy tale
Where do the poets go
When words are lost
When they have no home
No sense of belonging
Where do they go from here
Poets stay put with words trapped in their hearts. They'll find their way out eventually, word by word - space by space, until they start weaving together to create something beautiful again.
Poets drift.
Carried by the tides of life.
Through stormy seas.
Across oceans wide.
But no matter where they go
The words will find them

I can’t explain why this poem makes me happy, but it does. The subject matter is not happy at all, but I have read it numerous times and it has brought a smile to my face each time. For me, and this is just my opinion, this is the most enjoyable poem that has dropped so far this year. Thank you for this.
Also: Jorunn Skaldmaer. Um, hello? You deleted your profile in December I believe. Right after you tried your hand at writing a 750 word story. Your question/cliffhanger at the core of that story inspired me to try my hand at it as well. I didn’t get to thank you for that (TY!) and I am glad to hear you are still writing.
