He reminded them that prom was still on for the week before graduation. A ripple of cheers followed.
Then he ran through a list of announcements. The last one was about a departure.
Miss J. Bennett was leaving the school. As the principal read her eulogy, her drama students murmured among themselves. Some of their mouths hung open. Others put their hands on their heads. A few wiped tears. West stared at the floor.
She sparked a burning applause.
She made her choice, in the end. West couldn't hate her for it even if he tried. He wanted her to be happy, even if it meant their relationship would end.
All he could do was be with her until she was gone.
Then he'd need to move on.
Thank you for a thoroughly enjoyable story, although I must say, your style is not one I feel totally comfortable with. But that’s irrelevant. IMHO,, you write very well and your work is easier to read than some of the garbage that is scattered through Lit. I’m looking forward to Part 3; I’ m addicted to happy endings, but I respect the power of how you have finished Part 2. You deserve a wider readership, and I’d like t think that the story of Jess and Sean will lead to that. Again, thank you.
I forgot to add: This is a snippet of Jess' Playlist:
Bags, Clairo
Ecstasy, Crooked Still
A Place in California, Jeremiah Burnham
If I Didn't Care, The Ink Spots
I Fall in Love Too Easily, Chet Baker
I've seen your comments in the first story and I'd like to say thank you. Part 1 was something I wanted to do for a while but I didn't expect it to catch much attention. Naturally, I was surprised at how warm the reception was. I'm grateful, truly.
Interestingly, I wrote Part 1 with only half the intention of continuing the story. If even one reader told me to finish it, I would. There were, of course, more than a few of you who wanted that. That brings us to this moment.
Part 2 was more difficult to write than the first but I think it came out well. I'm glad it came out, period. This isn't the end, however. Part 3 will be the last chapter of this love story. I'm actively working on it, worry not.
Again, thank you for reading this story. I can't say that enough. Let know know what you think so far. It's always a pleasure to hear back from you.
Take care.
