I'm not sure what drew me to this story, but I enjoyed the hell out of it. Your characterization of Shannon, and later, Birdy really pulled me in. Despite the setting, you've also crafted a weirdly relatable and believable plot. All in all, it's kind of amazing how you've managed to turn a concept that could have easily felt niche and a bit squicky into something so playful, fun, and surprisingly... human? I hope the lack of comments doesn't keep you from posting more stories in this genre, and I hope this isn't the last we'll see of these characters!
