The "hidden" world behind the scenes is still interesting, and I wish we had more information, but I struggle with how that would be done without an info dump which doesn't fit the narrative. Penelope has 100% been conditioned in some way, and they made mistakes, so now some things are being interpreted by her conditioning in ways that were not anticipated.

Additionally, Felix is almost certainly going to die on this trip. Even without his melodramatic "beyond death" statement, this feels like the "one week away from retirement" case that the old cop gets that guarantees their death.

Fun story though! I wish it spooled out a little more quickly here, as it's easy to forget what has happened thus far with so much space between chapters.
