The story is a bit lame but the ending is great!! Poor guy!!

While its not really pertinent to the plot, you don't mention what sport this 8 person team plays. I found that lack of basic information a little distracting.

I love stories like this that show some imagination.

I guessed it must be something like basketball or netball. 5 players and 3 subs? You'd still probably wan't like 10 people though...
