All Comments on 'A Soldier's Wish is Granted'

Another story where it looks like a soldier is going to get dumped while he's deployed. What is it with jackasses fucking over military members? I know its just fiction, supposedly, but damn, don't they have enough to worry about without someone putting the seeds of doubt in a real relationship?

To the commenter below, there are so many stories about guys getting dumped while deployed because it happens so often. It’s been happening since Greece fought Troy, probably before. It happened to my grandpa in WWII. The first casualty in my battalion for my second deployment was a suicide, sergeant’s wife wrote him a Dear John as soon as we shipped. We know it’s happened and will happen, we even have a name for the guy nailing our girl/wife while we’re gone and we sing about him in marching cadence. To be fair, though, military personnel hardly have a reputation for fidelity either. All too often we ARE the guy nailing some other schmuck’s wife. Earlier in this same story line the guy in question denies being in a relationship and screws a couple sergeants while on R&R. This is also highly credible, at least the willingness to cheat part.

Don’t put servicemen and servicewomen on a pedestal, and don’t feel sorry for them either. We know what we’re signing up for, or if we don’t, we figure it out real fast. It’s a different culture, a different lifestyle, and it is hard but it has advantages. We are no better or worse, morally speaking, than the next person.
