An Unexpected Christmas Present

I share some of the same concerns as others expressed about Luke. He seems a muscular, well built guy, sexy in all the right ways, even with some body hair, and that bog cock. If he had been a little more loving, even gentle, in his approach, we could have understood the sex. But because they seem to be falling for each other, even to the point of love, doesn't there have ti be some forgiveness for the brutal fucking scene? Luke's sucking of Ryan might be a start, but I think Luke has some making up to do before he can be making out, if you know what I mean. I understand male to male attraction, but I guess I shy away from the rush and brutal side in preference to a tender, more loving touch.

HairyJacques, thanks so much for your comment! You explained it much better than I could, this is pretty much the depth I was trying to give to the characters. Everything you stated is on point, and I'll do my best to try and tell more of the sentiments involved in those moments of intimacy; having experienced myself, in a way, these conflicting feelings (wanting to please your partner, while also being in discomfort), I wanted to convey the intricacy of these situations, and how part of you wants to keep going, even if you're out of your comfort zone.

For me, Ryan's ambivalence about his first sexual experience was a highlight of the story. It helped make it seem real. We know nothing about Luke's sexual history, but given his more worldly nature and muscular body it's almost assumed that he's been around the block a few times. It's not surprising that, as Luke states, he presumes that Ryan shares his level of experience. He would have been more tender had he known that Ryan was a virgin, but he didn't know--so he wasn't very tender. He was a horny soldier acting impulsively in lust. And although Ryan experienced discomfort when he was being throat-fucked and when he was being penetrated, he didn't really protest. He was craving Luke. He was craving the sex he'd denied himself up to that point. And he was processing everything--and everything was happening so quickly. So one part of him was feeling pain but on another level he was overwhelmed by lust, gratitude, and a desire to please a man with whom he was falling in love. We've all experienced conflicting feelings like these. Thanks for revealing so much about Ryan and depicting his complexity. I can't wait to learn more about Luke.

I'm sorry it became uncomfortable to read, I totally understand that the "sudden shift" of the character was very abrupt, and I thought about how to best write it many times; it was a bit of a gamble, I wanted to set up the "unpredictability" of Luke, which I was going to better describe and motivate in the next chapters.

It's a bit hard to convey all the facets of a character's personality through short stories (especially if, in my mind, they'd had a friendship years prior); what happened to Luke was supposed to be an unexpected and uncontrolled reaction, and Ryan gave him forgiveness mainly because of his more kindhearted nature. On the other hand, Luke had not shown that much affection openly before, and I admit I could've marked this more clearly. Luke will open up to Ryan more and more, and you'll see more of the depth of the character. I wanted him to be a bit of an asshole in that particular moment, and at the same time, I wanted to tell the fact that Ryan was uncomfortable with it, but he would've still allowed it, and then forgiven him. Although it was painful and unpleasent, he ultimately enjoyed it, which doesn't need to be an agreeable choice to everyone. Also, Luke isn't going to flip flop through different personalities, and Ryan's going to find out why Luke behaved that way, what happened during those years they were apart.

I read your comment thoroughly multiple times, and again, I definitely see your point of view! I couldn't help to chuckle at some of the things you've pointed out, realizing how they could get interpreted, or how cliché some of my writing choices were. I really liked most of this story, but what the hell happened as they started the first round of sex. Luke went from being a sweet, respectful guy to a dominant asshole in a second. He got very aggressive and brutally fucked Ryan’s mouth, throat, and then virgin ass. It was clear he was hurting (even humiliating) Ryan and it just continued. As a reader, it was very uncomfortable to read and completely shifted my perception of the Luke character. He was aware the whole time of what he was doing to Ryan and seemed to relish gleefully in it. As it concluded, he immediately shifted back - asking if Ryan was hurt, saying he didn’t know he was a virgin (uh, maybe ask), and then offering a lame apology that didn’t even make sense (why’d he blame Ryan if it was all his fault), and getting all sweet and caring again. That whole 180 degree turn and back was very off-putting. Just because Luke has a big cock doesn’t give him an excuse to be a huge dick!! Ryan’s first time really deserved to be much more gentle and caring than that. If they stay together I hope Luke doesn’t flip flop back and forth between a sweet guy who lined away for Ryan, and an arrogant asshole whose misplaced aggression is taken out on Ryan.
