For me the whole subtext of machinations of deity like figures you introduced in book 2, feels a bit alien and distracting. It seems misplaced and feels like it's been shoehorned in to add a Fantasy layer to the story. And addition, the stories characters and the environment you have masterfully crafted do not need.
