I was kinda hoping Apollo and Rafale would develop a romance. Interspecies stuff isn't really my thing, but I liked the characters well enough that I was on-board by the end.

I personally think interspecies relationships work best as a metaphor for interracial relationships. The Shape of Water is the best example. Something to be thinking about if you want to continue writing this kind of fiction. No reason that niche fetish erotica can't have some ideas on its mind.
