I'm Sorry...

I am thinking that Chris really is a stupid man. How can this man, who cannot simply know how read people could ever get to a position that he occupies? As I have said before, he is really pig-headed. He is emotionally retarded. He says he listens to people, but he only hears what he wants to hear. How can he not know Molly loves him.

I have to say, I am really enjoying this story. Gary, I am thinking that all of the speculation as to where this story will go, says how very good this story is. Keep up the good work.

Re: mallah's question

The problem is that Chris is a logical, rational man. And Molly is currently an irrational woman. Rational men and rational women have a hard time understanding each other, so a rational man will never understand an irrational woman.

Chris's reading of the situation is 100% accurate given the facts he has observed, assuming that one can logically extrapolate Molly's external behaviour into how she feels about things. Unfortunately Chris doesn't seem to know that women can be downright weird about this kind of stuff; concealing their true feelings and adopting martyr complexes. I suspect Molly married Peter more out of a combination of guilt and the excitement of something new than she did out of love. She persisted out of some warped concept of "duty", as if it were her destiny to pay some sort of penance.

Note to the feminazis who are about to lynch me: men can be completely irrational too. They tend to manifest it in different ways.

Of more importance is: how does Chris feel about Molly? He says he isn't in love with her. Whether he is deluding himself or not remains to be seen. If in fact he does not love her then Molly's feelings are irrelevant - if the love is not reciprocated then no relationship beyond the platonic should be attempted.

Re Chris and his talent

First the story is interesting and well told.

Chris seems to have gotten where he now is by working tremedously hard. Way many even at the executive level foolishly try to get by with no more than forty or forty five hours a week. It is one sure way for a grind to get ahead over talented but less than persistent employees.

What fools we men can be.

I am not very eloquent and I hope I don't get burnt because of it by other readers but I have to make a few comments.Chris's attitude is really kind of funny. To me it is obvious he still loves Molly, but will not let himself admit it. Kind of hardheaded, I would say. It also appears to me that Molly still loves him. I hope they get back together.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
Well, if that is love....

Molly is a manipulative bitch who has wounded our boy Chris pretty badly. Who knows why she chose to pull Peter's dick to taunt Chris? Probably not even Molly knows. Now she sees Chris again and decides to reverse course. Bad for Peter and bad for Chris, who is now even more messed up than before.

Chris acted out of character in chapter six

I see where Gary is trying to explains Chris's actions in taking Molly to bed, but it doesn't work for me. Chris is too calculating to just fall into bed with Molly and then compound the disaster by taking a nap until maybe half an hour before the husband is due home.

There was no reason to take a nap with Molly. They were not lovers, it was just sex and there was no manifestation of either of them still loving the other. To stay in character, Chris should have gotten up, dressed and left, but that would not have served to create the current crisis in Molly's marriage.

I really like this author and the story in general, but that aspect of the story line bothered me and still does. OK, I have beat it to death and will wait for the next chapter.

Chris' refusal to believe Molly loves him

and his refusal to admit that he loves her seems perfectly believable to me. People do this kind of thing all the time when trying to convince themselves of something and/or protect themselves from getting hurt. You know 'I didnt really want to go out with her anyway' when a girl turns you down for a date. 'Who cares what they think' when someone who's opinion you value does something to hurt you. This is just that type of behavior to the nth degree. Its also perfectly acceptable to exaggerate for effect/dramatic tension in a fictional story imo.

Maybe it will turn out Chris is right and Molly really doesnt care for him. Its also very possible that we will find out that Chris is just trying to protect his own heart from being hurt again. That he loved Molly so deeply he is still hurting so he tries to convince himself she doesnt care for him and that he's over her. Maybe he thinks he can avoid more pain by not getting his hopes up. His own words seem to back this up to a certain degree when he was talking about never loving deeply again and that shallow relationships where all he was looking forward to in the future.

Anyway, the story continues to be very good imo. I liked it a lot from the start (except for that one chapter that sorta got on my nerves) and its just getting better and better. I really do think the author put a lot of effort into this story and it shows. Many people here submit very good stories and give the reader lots to think about, or offer some interesting ideas. This author has done that but it seems that the structure of the story itself is also a cut above. Seems to be a lot more here in terms of how the story is developed and told than most -foreshadowing, clues, attention to detail, character development, multi-dimensional characters, various possible explanations/outcomes, etc. Thanks again for writing.

I have throughly enjoyed reading this story. I have to be awake in 5 hour, and I could not stop reading.

I need some more closure - do say there is at leat onemore chapter.

Can't follow the logic of some commentators

How say that they can't understand why Chris refuses to believe Molly loves him. To many (most?) including Chris obviously, Molly's actions speak for themselves. People who love a person generally don't fuck other people. Pretty simple really.

This is top shelf fiction, and I for one am loving it. Thank you for writing this tale!

Maintaining the tension

I really like the way you are maintaining the tension in this story. The apparent irrelevances of Chris's business life just seem to throw the main narrative into sharper focus. I think I can see where we're going, but I expect a few more twists and turns before we get there. Many thanks for good and engaging writing.

Fun update!

I smiled as I read the comment from another poster, pointing out that in 7 long chapters, Chris and Molly still have been too chickensh*t to actually sit down face to face and have a long heartfelt talk. And I agree with those who suggest that it might be because Chris would prefer to keep up the civilized veneer of "oh well, it's old news, history really, sad and all that but I'm over it" and who knows what Molly is thinking as we aren't privvy at all to her thoughts.

This is a delightful romp of a soap opera. The way that so many people that Chris works with talk openly with him about the affair of years before, asking him about Helene, or about Myra - I love it! It's so funny. Every time his secretary asks him if he's getting any from Mrya, I get the giggles. She is so wildly inappropriate! She just met the guy for pete's sake, yet she's all into his personal business, trying to arrange a "date" between him and another employee of the company, wondering if he still finds her "delectable"? Oh my god, that woman kills me.

Then Piers! He and Chris didn't know each other before Chris came to this division, right? Yet there they sit, in Chris' office, talking about intimate details. Holy moly. Chris even gives clinical details about how he and Molly had it off and Peter walked in on them - rofl. Seriously, these people need a little more excitement in their own lives as they are clearly wayyyy too invested in crazy triangle of Chris, Peter and Molly. But I wouldn't have it any other way because it's just such a fun read.

Too bad Carole is married, because I really wish for her some crazy wild romance with a lusty dark-eyed foreigner -- but I digress and that would probably be much more appropriate for Erotic Couplings, so never mind about that.

I have no idea where Gary is taking this story line, but I'm enjoying every minute of it. Yes I know it broke his heart when the affair happened, but it sure seems like he has been able to pick up the pieces and is quite enjoying life and sexuality now, so I don't think he needs my pity.

Hopefully Molly will figure out what she wants and stop expecting some man to solve her problems. She ought to divorce Peter, see if Chris will take the kids for a fortnight, and go off and have a good long think about things. It would do her a world of good. Maybe she could go back to school, get a degree, or start working in a field that she finds fascinating, and thus also move on in her own way, like Chris has. Oops, there I go again, trying to write the story. LOL.

Truly what I hope for them both is that they can end up as friends. Obviously they had a deep love. Everyone makes mistakes and Molly made a big one. But they have two kids together, and a shared history. If he hasn't already, it would do Chris a world of good to finally forgive her for what she did. Similarly, it would do Molly good to give one last heartfelt apology, and then forgive herself. Then both of them should move forward, hopefully able to be amicable and mutually supportive as parents.

Still a lot of twists and turns

Chris is turning down women left and right.. He now has noone but Molly to turn down.. And I'm sure he'll do that come Monday.. So, we know Molly is pregnant and will have a baby in nine months.. Where will that leave Chris, especially if Peter is infertile?? He MAY discover that Molly IS the love of his life!!

Not the best chapter

To me the character Chris is being a little too stubborn now. How many things need to point to the fact that Molly would rather be with him. I have enjoyed this but I do hope that the end is approaching soon. I believe that we are exhausting most of the ways he can honestly avoid the truth. This chapter just didn't flow as well. It was rather like the middle part of a trilogy, more filler than plot.

Dr_KnowDr_Knowalmost 17 years ago
Slow - slow - stopped

This chapter seemed to just be some kind of unnecessary filler. The story line has slowed to almost a full stop. How many times can the same ground be covered? While the writing is good, the plot is becoming tedious. Get on with it before the reader gives up due to lack of interest!

Easter weekend Hmmmmmmmmmm

What could be more appropriate? The perfect time to resurrect a relationship. I never did consider Myra a threat, Peter either for that matter. The only real threat to Chris and Molly's reconciliation is Chris himself. There is a country and western song with the lyrics "I've been thinking about leaving for so long, I've changed my mind" Molly may have. I have been hoping for a reconciliation for so long, I've changed my mind. No thats a lie, I still want it badly. But no matter how it ends, it has been a great ride! Thank you.

My only criticism is that it is so good I am being made late for work reading it. Keep up the good work. Please write more and ignore the naysayers who don't know a fine storyteller.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
Ruled by emotion

I think Molly is ruled by emotion and Chris is ruled by his head. They were never really compatible and they never will be. I don't know why Molly did what she did, nor at this point do I care. I think that Molly and Chris are equally flawed. Equally fucked up. So I really don't care why she had an affair while supposedly happily married, but I wish Chris would leave behind his "moral superiority" because at this point there's none that he can claim. Since he arrived he has set a chain of events to destroy that marriage and he finally has succeeded. And now he feels sorry for "poor Molly" who chose Peter over him and now she will be left with nothing... At one point when he thinks about what's happening he has no sympathy for Peter, then when discussing the events with Piers he says he feels sympathy for Peter??? WTF? And though he has been careful of his treatment of Peter so that no one can claim prejudice in the job in fear of a lawsuit, he does interfere quite a lot in their lives...and sleeps with his wife. He consciously or not rubbed it into his face when he chose to remain in the house after having sex. Oh yeah, I forgot, he took a "nap..." So I'm supposed to believe that Peter is so noble that even though the big boss slept with his wife he would never consider suing Chris' pants off.

It is an interesting soap opera. I don't particularly like any of the characters, but I want to know what will happen to them. I'm just hoping that a new character will appear - a new man for Molly. One that will treasure her. One that will TALK to her. One who will fight for her. One who will give her the security she needs, making her feel important and not just an incident in his life. One who will unite this family, being a good friend to the children so that Chris can continue his important corporate, king-of-the-world life and when he has time out of his busy schedule, he can then have a weekend with the boys. I'm probably the only reader that doesn't like Chris, but so be it.

Coming along

This is a very good story. Emotion and logic - the eternal conflict, they rarely work well together. Gary's style of drawing things out by taking the time to really flesh out the characters is great. No quick stroke story, an involved and well crafted one. It will be interesting to see where this one goes, it doesn't have to be reconcilliation.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
Poor Molly

She is a victim of two small mistakes... she cheated in both marriages!

I don't like the idea about reuniting with first husband. They are two different people with too many issues between them to live a happy life together.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
But what about Susan?

I keep getting the feeling that Molly's mother was very involved in the initial break-up. Will this come out over Easter Monday?

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
The fun is in the guessing

Gary likes to draw out a story, like taking us on a Sunday drive out in the country. So the fun is guessing where we are going. My guess is that Molly seduced Chris that afternoon because she knew that she was fertile. Even if Peter hadn't come home to find them, she was determined to become pregnant with Chris' child and she knew that would end her mistake with Peter. Myra's comment made her determined to fight for the restoration of the marriage. Peter is right, she is still in love with Chris. Both she and the boys want to be reconciled. Do I think Bonnie had something to do with their breakup? You can bet your bottom dollar on it.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
Storyteller

I believe most people read literotica stories for two things;the sex scenes of course but secondly a good story to go along with the sex. GaryAPB has managed to capture both of these important concepts in this story and so we look with anticipation to each new installment so well done and keep it coming.

Now I know people will have different opinions on how the story should end but I am putting my bid in for a happy ending (read reconciliation between Molly and Chris)with a believable set of reasons why the break-up happened in the first place. So on to Chapter 8 with great anticipation!

Molly is, well, human....

...but so is Chris. Just human in different ways. I don't see her as morally superior to Chris or Peter, just because she follows her heart, and they think with something else. There is nothing inherently better about being a romantic or sentimental sort. Nor is it inherently inferior. It's just a matter of personal style and inclination.

They are all adulterers, so we can level the moral playing field on that point. Clever in a way, to take adultery off the table like that. There is, after all, more to this story than extramarital dalliance. Did they do wrong? Yes, but get over it. They're human beings. Human beings do wrong shit all of the time. It's fiction, anyway. Adultery is a true guilty pleasure, in every sense of the way, and in fiction it's harmless (as opposed to reality, where one must pay the piper and face the lawyers).

Whatever the case, they are just 3 different people, and Molly isn't compatible with either man. Peter is vain and thin-skinned, not to mention paranoid (even if he is right about Molly, and he probably is). Chris is calm, cool, and collected. Perhaps more of a cold fish than some would like....truth be told, including Molly. She might pine for the past, out of nostalgia, but reality would see them back in divorce court before long. He's not a romantic at heart, and that's what she is seeking. The difference is that unlike the one commenter, I don't see that as bad...just bad for Molly.

She is a flawed, but truly sentimental sort of woman, so a brand new guy at some point for a third marriage (and hope that the old saw about the third time being the charm works out for her) is her only real option, if she wants a relationship or marriage.

But don't judge Chris for being Chris. He's a thinker, first and foremost. He's not a poet. Get over it.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
It is a great story, but

I feel it is time to move toward a resolution, and to an end. Cris made a huge mistake when he fucked Molly, since as an employer’s wife, she was of limits. As a professional, he should forget that. It seems that he is not that good. His leveled him to the others. I don’t think I like any of them, but still a great story, end it is time to finish it.

soap opera

I think Carole is the one who really has the perspective on this story. It is definitely a convoluted soap opera. Let's see, we have a wife who cheats on her first husband, divorces and marries her lover, then basically seduces her first husband and then is mysterious about what she wants to do. The first husband is devastated about the loss of his wife, after a time to recover, he enters into relationships that are doomed to end due to his first marriage. He succumbs to his ex-wife's availability, pursues one of his colleagues, sends his last lover home after she comes to rekindle and now is sure he has no future with his first wife. Myra first refuses her bosses overtures, then makes very suggestive comments, followed by a sultry evening where she is obviously thinking about her last controlling boyfriend during the sex, followed by the decision to stop the assignation with her boss (after one more time). Not to mention what is going with the second husband, a father-in-law who wants the first husband to come back into the picture, and a mother-in-law who seems to want to manipulate her daughter's marital life to suit her own convenience. GaryAPB will prove himself a true master storyteller if he can tie all of this together to satisfy all of the eager readers. I don't quite see that Chris' evening with Molly was as much of a sexual harassment sin as as others do, since I think the fact that she is his ex-wife changes that situation. For myself, I wonder if Peter has been doing something shaky on all of those Wednesdays that he has been off at work. And I wonder why the big boss chose to send Chris back to Bristol with his cryptic scripture quotation. And the big question is what exactly is Molly up to? I look forward to reading this story every day, but still hope that everything will tie together soon.

A Great Story

I`m loving every word in the story Chris needs to have a conference chat with Peter and Molly then drug them both then tie them down in a chair then try to get to problem they are having with there marriage then move on with there lives os what that Chris was swooped up by Molly she could be suffering from Depression one side of her could still be Peters wife and the other could be still be in love with Chris her mind might not be agreeing to the thinking that she is married to Peter and love only Peter.

Let's face it. Chris was used as a stud service for Molly to produce the daughter she always wanted. Peter is firing blanks.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
since when has Liter become Soap Opera heaven?

I am not sure why so many think this sort of mindless silly soap Opera is Good.

AnonymousAnonymousalmost 17 years ago
Gee Guess what happens on Easter Sunday?

This story is getting silly. And there is far too much group think going on here. Isn/t it obvious that the Big conversation everyone is wondering about is going to occur on easter Sunday? THAT is when this reconciliation is going to happen.

alot of folks might be upset when that happens.

I think what is bothering some folks is the soap opera nature of this story. Certainly in GaryAPB/s fabulous TGI story that was not the case. I did not agree with the forced reconciliation ending of THAT story -- most readers did not either -- but it was extremely well done. It was NO Soap Opera either. Perhaps that story has biased some readers here?

I still cannot see how or why so many readers think Molly is STILL in love with Chris. It seems that in the early chapters ....when we did hear a few words from Molly... she expressed regret of what she did and sorry she was that she hurt Chris so deeply but that does not mean Molly still Loves Chris.

Regret and remorse does NOT mean Love.

Allegedly at the end of chapter 7 Molly is devastated ... that is what father says. She is now at her parents house... crying her eyes out because she cheated on Peter. How is THAT proof she still loves Chris? When Molly cheated on Chris 4 +years ago was she crying like this ? was she devastated?

NO. That did not happen. she never said I am sorry Chris. She never said lets see if we can work this out.

Allegedly Molly is so filled with remorse and regret that when the love of her life comes back into her life she runs over to him desperate to explain herself to see if she has any chance at all with him... right?

Nope THAT didn/t happen either

As many have noted clearly Chris is a deeply hurt man... his supposed need for answers seems to be strong -- although at 8 chapters I am beginning to wonder arent you? After 4 years he is a much more cynical man and a cold hearted man... Mind you with good reason. But Molly/s supposed love and regret of her actions and her desire to return to what she had 4 years ago before she made her mistake/ betrayal are based on what Chris was like 4-5 years ago!

She does NOT know this "version of Chris".... her ex husband is totally different man from what she left 4-5 years ago.

IF Molly is in still love with Chris that Chris of 4+ years agos No longer exists. She killed that version of a kindler gentler more sensitive Chris.

Soapy Diswashing Opera

Writing's good. Exaggerated suspenseful intends focusing on what Molly has or hasn't to say, is not that big of a deal. To a decent, strong, morally upstanding man/husband, what Molly has or hsan't to say won't be that important. This is a serially unfaithful woman:

Being highly fickle, and also not very bright or educated, albeit from Chris description (compared with both Helen and Myra), the motherly well endowed, roundish, meaty and handsome woman Molly can't be faithful to any man. She's ever watchful that Mr. Really Right could appear any day...

Any strong and faithful man would have problem with Molly. Problem, of course, is that neither Chris nor Peter is very decent, moral, or faithful... each one is now blaming the other for fucking his wife!!! The fools don't know the woman has not only fucked them both but also fucked them over....

Chris is positively happy that Peter's shooting blanks! The idiots doesn't realize that had not that been the case, Molly would be nursing a half dozen babies at her bossom by now! That's HARDLY the picture of a woman who would affect and/or shape a strong man's sense of love and loyalty, for years on end....!!

I found it soapily hilarious that now the top notch old grandfatherly research scientist Dr. Piers as well as Ralph, ex father in law, spend literally hours upon hours with Chris, talking about Chris, Molly, and Peter and Shakespeare and Andrew Marvell and romantic poems!!! LOL

Wow!

I am thinking that Molly thought Chris was cheating on her, before she cheated with Peter. I went back and read the first chapter again. When Chris was talking to Keith, he was talking about when he was stressed. What he did instead of being normal and taking a vacation, he instead worked 'harder and longer' to combat the stress. Now, having a lot of the 'cheating spouse's' stories on this website, there is common clues as to catching a cheating spouse. Work habits change, leaving earlier and coming back later, increased or decreased sex, buying spouse gifts for feeling guilty about an affair, being uncommunicative, too tired for holidays with family, especially on weekends. I think that when Keith asked Chris if he thought Molly might have thought he was cheating, Chris just blew it off. I am thinking when Molly wrote the note saying that Peter was going to marry her and buy her a house, she thought that Chris was going to confess his affair, especially when she showed up at his door step before the final decree. Just another theory...

I have to clarify my position from this morning. Reading the first chapter again, it amazes me that on the Thursday Chris knew he was going to Bristol that he did not call and tell his sons, that he was coming home. From Thursday until he left Saturday, about 48 hours why did he not call them. The first person he called was a friend who he had not seen in over four years, not his kids. Chris is around the apartment(even that, why did he not get a two or three bedroom apartment so his sons could spend the night?)doing nothing. Sunday, he reads the paper, lazes around, goes for a walk to meet Keith, and still does not call his sons. Chris ends up not calling to tell them he moved home. They find out when they see him on television! When he goes to pick them up on his first weekend free, they don't even hug or acknowledge him, instead they run to the car. I am guessing I would be pissed too if I had to find out my parent was home on tv. I still believe Chris a emotional cripple who needs to grow up.

Now one other thing I believe is wrong with Chris, is he does too much guessing about situations and people, instead of asking questions. I think that Keith said it best "tell me what happened, not your conclusions" saying this to Chris.

I have to say even though I don't believe Molly should have cheated, I am more sympathetic toward her more and more. I don't believe she set out to seduce Chris, I think that happened at the spur of the moment.

I am thinking that Chris really does love Molly, but will not acknowledge that. If he did not, as soon as they finished in bed, he would have left. Chris felt contented, and fell asleep were he was supposed to be, with Molly's arms wrapped around him.

Gary, I think the pace that you are going is great, there are no down chapters. This story has been most enjoyable...

I'm split here

On one hand it a good read. It's not to heavy on the story, and it had characters that most folks can identify with.

On the other hand Chis (the main character) seems to let everyone say and do what ever they want to him, but it seems to work out for the best that a Managing Director lets everyone say and do whatever they please to him.

That and the story "STILL" feels like a "Love lost and Love regained" story. Like Chris is kidding himself that he won't end up with her. I say that because while Chris keeps finding ladies he always seems to end up by himself, and Molly can't seem to find happiness in her new marriage.

What a ride!

Ok, Gary, you got us rabble all worked into a lather. It's time for the Big Reveal! I don't know how you're gonna do it, but I'm confidant you're going to give Molly some rationale for her behavior. She split from Chris because she believed it was for the best. She tried her best to make Peter happy despite being her second choice. Now she's splitting from Peter because, as we all know, TRUE LOVE cannot be denied. I have no clue what plot device you will use to achieve this feat, but I'm certain it will get a rigorous analysis here in the comment section. All I can say is that I'm really enjoying the ride. By the way my money is still on Susan having a major role in this.

story is still great but confusing

I enjoy your writing, but your whole story boils down to the mystifying way in which Chris casually accepted Molly's affair with Peter and Molly's marriage to Peter a man she did not appear to love. Until the author explains what happened years ago to destroy their marriage it will be impossible to predict any future in the story. Did Mollie ever love Peter? if not, why did she leave Chris and marry Peter? Neither question has ever been answered by the writer.

How could Chris have set up the ambush with Peter when he had no idea he was going to be invited back to their house, and CERTAINLY no idea he was going to be invited into their bed!

While, as I said in an earlier chapter, he should NOT have fucked Molly, he and others shouldn’t beat himself up TOO much over it.

First, unlike Peter, he didn’t set out to seduce Molly, if anything she seduced – no, BEGGED him to do it. Second, Peter is hardly the paragon of virtue to complain about ANYONE, including Chris, sleeping with his wife, considering both his history and how he got Molly in the first place! LOL, just saw where Chris said pretty much the same thing!

I’m a bit torn on this “Molly still loves Chris” bit. My “happy ending” side would like a reconciliation, Chris is probably not “in love” right now, but he definitely has feelings that MIGHT grow back into a new love. My other side says she had her chance to fight for her marriage before the divorce, getting engaged before the initial divorce decree, and getting married almost as soon as it was final, doesn’t speak of any “eternal love”!

I still can't get my head around Chris being so stupid about Molly. Perhaps his inability to understand women was the reason she strayed in the first place.

Pompous, stubborn, dozy, self-centred, arrogant all comer to mind when describing Chris.

Really should be 3* because of all of the above but cannot give it any less than 4*.

hmm had a felling since chapter one and he told about how she told she was getting married and was waiting for a reply for him that what she whants is for him to fight for her

but i cant posibly understand how she could exspect that i dont interfere in a guy hitting on my wife for the simple reason that what happens when i am not around i think she should speak up for herself

So far so good

I have put off reading this Novel for a long time. I hope to make it to the end of chapter 22 and will again comment on the story at the end of the last chapter. At this point there seems to be a lot of repetition in this tale.

5 STARS

Another interesting chapter. Followed by me laughing through the comments. An anonymous even gave me a belly laugh. Yes, my fellow anonymous are doing a bang-up job on this -- giving laughs. Yeah, and the named guys too.

Another chuckle over mallah saying Chris does too much guessing about situations and people ---- hey!, that's what the commenters are doing.

So I read the chapter, laugh my way through the commenters' guesses (and insightful observations that add to understanding of the story), then proceed to next chapter.

Let's go again...

I agree with average-joe

Molly destroyed Chris with her affair , and her telling him what a good nice guy Peter is, and all that other bullshit, like hes a allround good guy. Well I don't know about women, but I know how as a man how I would react, just like Chris .you build walls around your heart, you don't let anyone in that can hurt you ever again, And what does Molly do ,she come and sings praises about Peter, she may as well kick Chris in the balls. I ask you would you reconcile with her? Not me,

Wonder why Molly ever cheated?

Big question continues to be unanswered, "Why did Molly cheat with Peter? and What did Chris to make her decide to cheat?"

Likely the author is holding that one back... otherwise the story might fizzle out.

(We KNOW that she still loves him, as he still loves her. But, for them to get back together seems awfully far-fetched. Gotta feel a little sorry for Elsie, especially as the sons have obviously picked this up from their Mom at home.)

"I ask you would you reconcile with her?"

Not in a million years.

But I would string Molly along with hopes of reconciliation until she destroyed Peter in a bitter divorce battle. In fact, a condition of getting back together would be to make Peter suffer as much as possible, to prove she loved me and hated him.

Then I'd laugh at the unfaithful slut... and live happily ever after with Myra.

Just One Simple Thought

Since Chris never really had a chance to 'fight' for his marriage as it had been destroyed before he even knew there was a problem, shouldn't Molly have been the one to fight for it? Signed: BTW

Chris, for being brilliant in business, is a clueless wimp who prefers to bury his head in the sand when it concerns him personally. It appears he’s rather go thru like (his personal one) without confrontation. I have no respect for his character thru the 1st 7 chapters

Really enjoyable storyline. I think Chris is in denial about his feelings for Molly. That’s why Helene didn’t compare emotionally. He never got over Molly, still loves her deeply. He rationalizes that logically, his career isn’t conducive to long term relationships. But is it that he chooses upward mobility? Or is he focusing his energy as a crutch to avoid confronting his feelings? Either way, his actions after his divorce were more like Chris lashing out, than Chris healing after grief. He’s spent nearly 5 years hiding from himself.

Ugh! They both still love each other. Move it along, please, this Hamlet routine is one chapter too long.

A tad too slow.

3 chapters in one would make it better.

Well written though

What an absolutley pitiful MC... come to think of it, almost all the MC's circle is pitiful... they drift around in oblivion and use people up like tissue paper... they pull one out, use it up, toss it away, and then pull out another.

My second time thru, and I'm enjoying just as much as the first time. Chapters 3 thru 6 went by quickly last night, and I stayed up until almost 5:30 am. It was well written and kept the reader involved.

Im not quite sure why some comments are saying Chris is devious or morally in the wrong. Peter chased after a married woman, his wife, and slept with her while she was married. What Chris did just balances the equation.

It's ironic that TV soap operas were mentioned, because this really is following the melodrama by failure to communicate route.

Wouldn't be surprised to find out that by the end of it all it would have been a two page story if they'd bothered to actually talk properly.
