"No." Watching the single tear trickle slowly down her cheek, he felt rather as though his own heart might break. He closed his eyes briefly, wishing beyond reason that it'd had never come to this, that he could somehow turn back time, that by some miracle, he wouldn't have to say the words. But no miracle appeared to be forthcoming.

"Charlie wasn't your father," he said at last, forcing himself to meet her gaze. "He was mine."

Bombshell! What timing.

There is a difference between genders telling a tale.

Men seem to like straight narratives;

"just the facts, ma'am...".

"Get the frigging point, man!"

Women are:

"Girl, I want all the juicy details...".

" ...So, then how did you feel?"

This is a tough read with all the crying and all that.

I have never been able to give these chapters more than a 3 ⭐ rating. Primarily because Matt has been a womanizing ass in each one. He has only lived for the moment and abused her naivety. Someone needs to show up and beat his ass and leave him lying in the dirt.

Someone Likes Plot Twists…..

….. and this is sort of a whopper. Great story.

Body Image

I don't understand why you (the author) does not address that a major part of Melissa's poor body image is from being made fun of almost daily for a whole summer about her appearance by the boy she loved and his best friend? Particularly at an age when body image is shaped so definitively.

Exciting.

Not blood relatives

Remember Charlie was the husband of Suzie who was Melissa's mother's sister (in other words her blood related aunt). He said Suzie didn't know about it so obviously Matt isn't her child as well. That makes Matt the offspring of Charlie and Charlie's sister-in-law Ruth, who are both not blood related to Melissa. Now if Charlie had been Melissa's father instead then yes they would have been first cousin's (or half-siblings if Charlie had sired both Matt and Melissa). So don't worry the author did not make a mistake by not putting this story under the incest category of Literotica.

I knew it

I just knew there would be a major twist in the plot. Now we find that Charlie was Matt's father. So what is the secret the next chapter will reveal? Hmmmm. The question was raised once before--why does Ruth dislike Melissa so much? Well, one reason is that Matt would be a direct descendent if he was Charlie's son. But Charlie wanted Melissa to share the inheritance. Hmmmm, again. Charlie must have had another reason for the two of them to share the inheritance equally. I'll bet there's yet another twist to this plot. evanslily, you're one very creative author. I don't have time to read the next chapter now, but as sure as God made little green apples, I'm going to read this series to the finish, just as soon as I can.

Color me confused

I think I need to re-read an earlier chapter or two to find out why it's such a big deal that Charlie was Matt's dad. Why would that be so distressing to Melissa? I saw someone else comment that Melissa's frequent "freak outs" are getting a bit old -- I have to agree. She's seemingly a bit too quick to go for the drama. However, I am enjoying the romantic story line. Great sex scenes. But let's hope Melissa doesn't need constant reassurance in all things for much longer :)

So now its October 1st......

and I can't wait to read the next chapter that surely must be nearing completion now that your exams are done. Hope you did well! I am in love with your style and talent at writing and the sense of wonderful peace that you bring to the portrait of English country life. I live in the weeds in the states and it's just not the same. God Save the Motherland and all who abide there!

Thanks again and please please write more soon!
