This story has promise, I hope you continue to develop it. A tiny quibble, but you repeat the misspelling a lot: the word is "gweilo", pronounced 'gway-low' [in Cantonese], or elsewhere in Mandarin as "guizi" -- 'gway-zuh' -- from the expression "yang guizi", meaning "foreign devil", an old epithet in China & Asia, although nowadays it's often humorous & can even be affectionate, like gringo.
