I really enjoyed this beginning. Sometimes, I find it difficult to read sci-fi that's packed with new vocabulary and the first few paragraphs of this held a bit of a challenge. Because I simply can't resist a story with a powerful wizard, I muddled through. Glad I did. I am looking forward to reading more and hope the wait is not too long. I would suggest that you lengthen subsequent submissions to give readers more of a chance to become engrossed in the story as they muddle through the new vocab.
