Mollie studied his face and knew that he was telling the truth. She only had a moment to allow that thought to register before he folded her in his arms. She loosely put her arms around his waist, tears spilling out of her eyes. She didn't sob, only cried silently into his shoulder. He stroked her hair and held her against him, assuming that her tears were shed for their relationship. In soft whispers, he promised her to make things better. He would do everything he could to make her happy again.

Only she knew the truth about her tears. They weren't just for her marriage. She shed tears because guilt tore through her. She cried for Jill Conner lying alone in her brother-in-law's apartment with hope in her empty heart. She wept because she wasn't certain she wanted Bobby Donavon to be the one to make her happy.

You know what? Serves them right. This is a story about three basically decent people being horribly selfish for a "good" reason and hurting the person they love and themselves.

There's nothing honorable about cheating on a neglectful spouse, or going after a married woman... The most you could ever do is indicate your interest and leave the decision to them, but even that's disrespectful. Millie could have called her husband and stopped this whole thing on page 1. Why didn't she? She SHOULD have called her husband, if only to tell him he was a shitty spouse and she was done with him, but she had already grown comfortable playacting and going through the motions and given up on Bobby long before Jill Connor (also, her constantly being referred to as Jill by the characters and Connor by the author was really off-putting) showed up. He took her for granted, she ran with an assumption and along came a spider... It's an old, sad story, but well told.

5 stars, you wrote something very sexy, but also powerful and provocative!

I'm not sure what it is about this story that has gripped my heart. The characters are wonderful & the plot & narrative is intricately woven & really quite beautiful in its amazing emotive depths. I wish there was more.to this story, it could easilly become a series but my gosh, the pathos & heartbreak of this bittersweet story is incredible. Regardless of what you decide, these lovely characters lifted & broke my heart.. Thank you for this remarkable story. What a wonderful gift you've given us.

Molle deserves more attention

Very well written story. If you are still writing or want to start again, this tall guy thinks that Mollie needs your talents.
