Very nice story of what we have lost to progress!?

Norman Rockwell in words

A perceptive and moving tale of life and death in past times. These people had many hardships that we no longer have, but also many strengths that we have long forgotten.

Well presented!

How True It Is

I live in a hud subsidies old folks home and we all try to live on social security. Now that's a joke and a half unless you have a pension from someplace else you are screwed big time. The only way we survive is by sticking together. We do the same thing the people in your story do. We have to we have no choice its that or slowly waste away and die. We share we cook together we do what ever it takes to make it.

It takes a village

or in this case a community.

It is just what you did to survive

My parents grew up in the Southern cotton mill and cotton field towns in South Carolina before the Depression. This story is so indicative of the Southern culture; it's extremely well written and I smiled at "poot". It's so true. I'm proud to be a GRITS. A Girl Raised In The South. A true Southern woman is stronger than just about any other species.
