Consequences Pt. 10B

"I'd like that. Anytime!"

"One last thought, if there's anything that Louise and Amber should know that I don't, will you let them know, and Erika too, I am going to put her on the Bree and Jane case."

"Sounds good, she will like that."

They finished their chat and David went to find Erika. After a little loving, he came to the point and explained what he needed. He showed her photos that he had kept to himself, of the man who had Bree and Jane entranced. Then he went over everything with her. "I need you to get out there, find out if he is with them now, keep Amber & Louise informed of what you find, where, and at all times. They need to get into the places as soon as they are empty, so that's Bree's House, his place or anywhere else you find them. If he is not at Brees, check out the bar and see if you can track him to his job, find out who he works for and what he does if you can. If anyone asks what you're doing, just say you're doing site location work for your boss. If they are really pushy give them my number. Then just get away to somewhere else or a different position to watch. I'm sure you get the idea. Just keep liaising with Amber and Louise so we don't get any duplication or tripping over each other. I want you on the guy immediately because Amber and Louise are also helping me with the Olivia issues. If you ever get a chance to monitor what she's doing, get photos, work out what's happening and report asap ok?"

"This is exciting David, thank you so much for trusting in me."

"I was just pleased to find you free," he said. "You must be off to University soon."

She smiled, "I can't thank you enough for getting me on the course and supporting me."

"Forget it please, just being you is enough, I feel I can trust you and one day you're going to be a big part of our growing business. Do well at University, Erika, make me proud, and don't fall in love if you can help it, sex is ok but love gets in the way," and he smiled to lighten what he was saying.

"I promise," she said, a little embarrassed, she was already in love, it was the one thing she was going to find hard while she was away.

"Can I come home on the weekends David?"

"That's up to you lovely, see what you can work out once you know your lecture timetable, there might be a cheap flight with no luggage. Take enough clothes but make sure you leave your shirt and some clothes here. I'll get Nina to help you."

And so his next port of call was the woman herself. She was sunning herself in the garden with her nose in a book.

"How are you settling in lovely?" He asked.

She gave him a wicked smile, "lovely David, except I haven't seen much of you."

"If you want to know what's going on any time, speak to Lauren. She's taking on the role coordinating information and keeping everyone up to date about what's going on. I have a little job I would like you to do for me and some stuff to tell you that you might well be able to help with. Please feel free at any time to say if you feel uncomfortable about anything.

"Will do, what's the job?"

"Erika is going off to university soon and I want someone to make sure she has all she needs, I also want to make it possible for her to come home at weekends, so I'd like her to have clothes with her but also here, I would appreciate if you would do a bit of shopping with her."

"Happy to help in any way I can. Truly."

"Ok, And also, Erika is on a job trying to get information about a man who is trying to take two of our ladies. If he's above board that's fine but I have it on good authority that he's a scumbag."

"Is that Bree and Jane?"

"Yes. Do you think you could keep an eye on her? I would have asked you first but it wouldn't have been fair so soon."

"David, don't worry I'm having a ball and can't wait to get involved. To be honest I don't know how I'll ever repay you."

"Ohh I think we'll find a way," he winked.

"You can take that as a promissory debt"

"Yes I've been given the do's and don'ts. Absolute honesty. Keep you informed where I am, shirt only days, no mono relationships within the house unless it's something special."

"That's a fair summary, there's other bits and pieces but everyone is consulted. The ladies usually don't have sex with anyone from outside of the house without talking to me and the same applies to me, you may remember that I was talking about Aleesha."

"I don't know her so I couldn't comment."

"It's nothing earth shattering, she ought to be in our group but she is a PI and I think she is afraid that our situation may have privacy issues both ways. Even before the reporter incident I was paranoid about husbands finding this place. Anyway time will tell."

"Fair enough."

"So are we cool?"

"Well maybe after another down payment."

"Do you think anyone can see us here?"

"Don't think so."

"Let's get you out of those clothes then."

In the car, David spoke his thoughts out loud "I wonder, if you and Olivia had gone in opposite directions, whether you and I would have been a couple.

She mused for a moment, I don't know much about her yet so it's hard to say, you and I certainly seem to get on well enough, and the sex! We might never have left the honeymoon suite.

"You haven't had the full treatment yet," he sassed.

"Neither have you" she winked teasing him by running a hand up the inside of his leg.

"You certainly like to tease as she does."

She raised an eyeline "Tell me more, let's see if she's up to my standards" laughing again.

So he told her about Olivia masturbating for lorry drivers.

"That sounds like nothing compared to what Jo was doing to me on the trip down from Jersey."

Mysteries to be solved

Back to reality he stopped for a moment to allow his brain to move into a different kind of action mode. David had decided that he wanted to be away the week that Bree and Jane would or wouldn't come home. He also resolved to try and dovetail together as many things that he had to do and be away for, as he could. First he messaged Tania and was surprised to get a quick reply. Next week in Long Island at their summer house looked promising and David thought that to be perfect. He sent Ana a message to see when she could get away.

Replying to Tania he asked? "Bringing anyone? Husband? Boyfriend? children?"

"Yes Girlfriend."

"OK I will bring a woman too."

"Not a wife?"

"It's a long story. We are separated. I have a retreat for women recovering from bad marriages and similar so I currently have a choice of 9, although several are on assignments."

"Sounds intriguing."

"You'll love it if you're the same woman I knew all those years ago."

"Even more intriguing."

"I have lots to tell you and you will love whoever I bring, I love all of them."

"You were always too horny for your own good."

"That's a new one, but probably true. My problem is that I worry about them and although I expect them to leave eventually it worries me that they won't fall foul to some of the scumbags out there looking for ex-wives to prey on."

"I would love to tell you more about what is going on and what's in the pipeline, we virtually have community leaders begging us to do something in their area because it doesn't cost them anything except building permissions!"

"You really have caught my interest, I can't wait for next week."

"Same here." And they disconnected. He thought 'Great, that's one job organised waiting to hear from Ana. Now Aleesha.' He quickly messaged her to say he would like to spend some time with her while she is in Ohio, which she took exactly as he had intended.

It took her a while to get up the courage before she replied, "I'll keep my double room open for a couple more days."

"Sounds perfect, I'm really looking forward to seeing you."

"Me too," she replied.

Next, David found out exactly when Erika was due to start University, and then realised he ought to take her up there beforehand to get anything organised that she might need, it was what parents did if he remembered correctly and this time he realised it was down to him. It would also be a good opportunity to spend some quality time with Erika and he thought Rachel might like to come too. Then he had a shot of common sense and decided sensibly to leave that one to Erika.

He decided to arrange a meeting with Rachel away from the office and on a whim he suggested they should go to 'That Bar' or the Café where he saw Olivia. 'You never know,' he thought. By the time he got there it was the back end of the lunch period, they had decided to head for the bar first and he would phone to confirm his arrival in their car park.

It was very busy in the bar but he took a good look around to check if there was anyone he knew but finding no one, they decided to go on to the café where it would be quieter. They found a nice booth in a corner as the place was emptying after the lunchtime rush and they began to discuss David's thoughts on a University visit with Erika. Rachel agreed that such a trip would be special for Erika. So, while there, he messaged Erika to meet about a trip to the campus. He didn't get a reply for some time then received, 'Am following the guy from the pub, talk later.'

"Wow! that's quick work," he said to Rachel showing her the message, which of course led to him giving her a full explanation. While they were waiting they talked about her possibly going back to Ohio to progress the plans and he spent some time bringing her up to date on various issues. She seemed to become more and more mentally involved as he went along.

He was to get a late surprise when Olivia's young guys came in and sat in the next booth along, so that he could hear them but not see them. He pointed it out to Rachel as she was sitting with her back to them, then keeping their own voices down so that they could hear. David gave her his phone, setting it on record activation, indicating to her to place it as near as possible and be ready to press the button when necessary. He didn't realise the possibilities at first but they were about to strike gold. The one he called 'Olivia's Type,' joining slightly later, David took a much closer look as he came in and realised he was very like Daniel.

When the new guy arrived the talk became more interesting, it was soon clear that he was bringing instructions and they heard how two of the guys were to go to Olivia's place at 7pm and be ready to put on another show. Olivia would be telling them what to do when they arrived. When pressed he finally allowed that he and another one were going to do a later show. "How come he's doing the good stuff?" one asked and another suggested sarcastically "I bet it's that cucumber he's got hanging." Rachel and David had to stop themselves laughing at that. 'Could be' David thought, but he knew Olivia preferred quality before quantity, so here was another mystery upon mystery.

David let Rachel order their food so that his voice wouldn't be heard and they waited for the guys to leave before finishing their original conversation and heading out. He couldn't wait to speak to Amber and Louise about what was heard but like Erika it was going to be a while before he heard from them.

When David finally spoke to them, it seemed unlikely that there would be enough time to set up what he had planned, he had hoped to set up flashing lights and a siren to go off when Olivia and her cohorts put their plan in motion. The girls confirmed they had everything else in place but were now working at Brees House. He realised his idea had to go on the back burner this time and had to rethink his ideas. His heart told him that the Bree and Jane situation had become a higher priority and so messaged them to confirm his thinking, 'we will just have to wait and see what was captured on the devices in Olivia's place while he came up with something else.' he thought. He needed whatever happened with Olivia to be sure-fire as they were getting so close to what looked like real progress.

During the course of the Jane & Bree week, David was to realise that this was not something he would ever want to put himself through again. With Bree & Jane seemingly less likely now to come back with every passing day and Ana coming home less and less he couldn't wait to get away. He did begin to wonder whether Ana would still want to come away with him to meet Tania, but she assured him there had been no change.

One slight surprise was a call from Rose, "I am not ringing up for sympathy" she told him, "but I've been sacked and I'm starting a new life. I know I abused you badly but I would like to apologise to you, I know I have ruined any chance of visiting again but I felt I wanted to give my apologies to all the ladies who have joined you to escape, well people like me."

"So what are you going to do now?"

"I am going to do what I always wanted to do, write."

"That sounds interesting, what's your first going to be?"

"I have already started some time back and have got back into it, it's called Infidelity."

"Interesting."

She laughed, "I've spent a lot of my life chasing down stories about celebrities and others who commit adultery or two timing but never got a chance to write about the heartbreak that follows and how different people cope with it. Privately, I really admire what you're doing by the way."

"We aren't getting a mention are we?"

"No it's all going to be made up names but there are some cases where it would be impossible to not put two and two together. I've decided to keep places out of it altogether and I'll probably spin it into a novel."

"Sounds promising, I wish you a lot of luck."

He knew it had to come.

"I suppose there's no way I could visit again."

"Never say never," I quipped.

"Well I suppose that's a little hope."

"You have to understand that I have the very lives of these women in my hands, some of their husbands could be really abusive and there's so many unscrupulous men and even women out there waiting to take advantage in some way or another. I know you were a reporter but I'll still say that the press are the most irresponsible and unscrupulous people there are."

"I know."

"Let's suppose it was possible for you to talk to us, how could you give guarantees."

"I'll swear on whatever you want and give an editorial overview on what was finally published."

"That's a hell of a risk that you might lose a chunk of writing."

"I am sure we could work something out and besides I want to come visit anyway."

David laughed at that, "let me think about it and chat to the others, we have put a lot of new rules in place after your visit."

"Ohh," she said resignedly.

"I think if you want to be taken seriously you have to start telling the truth, especially when someone could be hurt. I'd be much more impressed if you had rung me with some real information about that scumbag you call your ex-husband"

"Jealous are we, has he taken them away."

"There you go, in one sentence you showed exactly how your mind thinks, but I'll tell you this, when I'm finished collecting evidence on him, if I find anything that you should have told me I am going to make sure that you go down too. And don't pretend that I can't do it because you know I can, it's just a matter of time."

"I'll be in touch, don't ring again until you are ready to help us, and that starts with bringing down your ex. Do you understand?''

She groaned and he disconnected.

Michael : An Architect who studied with David through University. Moving to the area and possibly joining their firm but has problems with his wife, Sarah, who is having an affair with Wes Daniels.
